Black Lives Matter
Black, Indigenous, and people of color (BIPOC) are statistically more effected by climate change, since BIPOC tend to live in low income areas due to intentional reshaping of city and societal structures. BIPOC neighborhoods are also more likely to be the home for factories and mining activities which cause harm to the planet, and in turn, the people living in the area. The Black Lives Matter and other BIPOC focused initiatives like Land Back are unignorably intertwined with the climate crisis. We at Nevada County sunrise give our full support to BIPOC in these times of intense struggle, and will awlays come to their aid in times of need.
Research has proven that the climate crises, unaverted, will lead to global pandemics like the one we are facing right now. In fact, many scientists proclaimed something like this would happen years ago. We didn't listen then, and we NEED to listen now. If we do not avert the climate crisis, there will be increasing numbers of pandemics like Covid-19, which will throw the world out of balance again and again. We need to act NOW.
Forest fires are caused by many things, such as droughts, unusual lightning storms, and invasive species like scotch broom and bark beetles, all of which are connected to the climate crisis. To stop the seemingly endless forest fires raging across California, we also have to stop the climate crisis, or we will never see the end to the flames.
The Yuba River
The Yuba River is the home of many plants and animals, as well as a major water source for the surrounding areas. We need to keep the Yuba healthy to keep the surrounding ecosystems, and in turn, the people in the area, healthy as well. Please respect our beautiful river: pack out what you pack in, do not go to the bathroom on the banks of the river, etc.
